A key phase in the expansion of what is already the largest liquid natural gas terminal in the United States has been completed.
Southern Union Co. said Friday it has finished boosting the capacity of the Trunkline LNG Co. terminal in Louisiana from 1.2 billion cubic feet per day to 1.8 billion cubic feet per day. Peak capacity also rose from 1.5 billion cubic feet per day to 2.1 billion cubic feet per day.
Capacity on the line is fully contracted to BG LNG Services LLC, a subsidiary of Britain's BG Group under agreements through 2028.
Trunkline LNG plans to increase the terminal's fuel efficiency using the ambient air temperature to warm and regasify the LNG. The company also said it will build a natural gas liquids extraction plant at the terminal to increase product flexibility.
Adding such extraction capabilities lets the terminal import natural gas from more diverse locations. These enhancements are planned to be in service in mid-2008.
