Construction on the national power grid connecting Northwest China with Central China (Sichuan) DC interconnection project started in Baoji, Shaanxi and Deyang, Sichuan simultaneously. This is the second power transmission line to connect the southwest grid to the central China grid, symbolizing another major breakthrough in transmitting electricity out of Southwest China, that is, the construction of a transmission channel to deliver electricity from the west to the east.
The DC interconnection project starts in Fengxiang County, Baoji City, Shaanxi in the north and goes all the way to Luojiang County, Deyang City, Sichuan in the south. The line goes over Qinling Mountain and passes through 3 provinces and 15 cities and counties in Shaanxi, Gansu and Sichuan. Investment for the whole project totals 5.4 billion yuan and will help the northwest to join hands with the southwest in the national grid.
The project is an important window on the policy to transmitting electricity out of the northwest power grid. So far, a 750 KW power grid in the northwest has already entered a construction peak. 6 substations with 8 lines will be ready to be commissioned for production this year. At the end of the year, construction of a 750 KW core grid frame will be completed at the end of the year. At the end of the “11th Five-Year Plan”, the northwest grid will be connected to power grids in Xinjiang and Tibet. By then all major power grids in the country will all be connected.
