Coal & Power News Review(1-15-2013)

2013-01-15 10:29:00

The State Grid Energy Research Institute released a report on the analysis of the country's electricity supply and demand in 2013. The report predicts that in 2013, the total electricity consumption in China will reach 5.3-5.4 trillion kWh, an increase of 7.0% -9.0% from the same time of last year. Nationwide newly added installed generating capacity is about 79 million kilowatts. Hydropower, thermal power, nuclear power, wind power and solar power each added 1,982 Kw, 3,538 Kw, 536 Kw, 1,570 Kw and 2.81 million Kw new capacities respectively.  By the end of 2013, the installed capacity will reach 1.21 billion Kw. Hydropower, thermal power, nuclear power, wind power and solar energy will each account for 21.9%, 69.4%, 1.6%, 6.4% and 0.7% of the country's total installed capacity respectively. The proportion of thermal power installed capacity will be less than 70% for the first time since 1985.

In terms of the number of hours of power generation, the report said the national power generation equipment utilization hours will reach 4,716 hours, an increase of 131 hours from the same time of last year; utilization hours of thermal power equipment will reach 5,149 hours, an increase of 82 hours.

Electricity supply and demand may reach an overall balance in 2013. If sustained high temperatures and dry weather happen in the summer, the power demand and supply will be very tight in the North China Grid, the East China Grid during the summer peak; efforts need to be increased in trans-regional support. In addition, affected by factors like slow but steady economic growth, industrial restructuring as well as continued regulation in real estate, high energy-consuming industries will not see a substantial increase in electricity consumption growth rate. The tertiary industrial use and residential use will continue to maintain a rapid growth momentum, resulting in overall growth in the country's electricity demand from that in 2012.
