Coal & Power News Review(12-25-2012)

2012-12-25 10:37:00

The latest data released by the National Energy Board show that the total electricity consumption in November grew by 7.6% from the same period of last year continuing the growth trend for two consecutive months and reaching a new high since March this year. The experts said that the trend of China's economic stabilization and recovery is further confirmed by the continuous rise of electricity consumption growth. In addition, the strong growth in electricity consumption in the tertiary industry also shows the effectiveness of China's industrial structure adjustment. China's electricity consumption growth is expected to maintain a moderate growth momentum in December.

The data show that the whole society consumed 413.9 billion kWh of electricity in November, an increase of 7.6% from the same period of last year with the growth rate reaching a new high in nearly nine months. In September this year, year-on-year growth rate in the whole society’s electricity consumption fell to 2.9%, reaching the lowest point for the year. But as from October, the electricity consumption growth rate ended its downward trend for four consecutive months and rebounded to 6.1%. The latest data announced in November confirmed another rebound of 1.5%, which further consolidates the recovery trend of electricity consumption growth rate. In addition to the continuous improvement in the monthly data, the cumulative year-on-year growth in electricity consumption has also improved for two consecutive months, rising by 0.3%.

The growth rate in electricity consumption has recovered to a level of 6%-7% on a year-on-year basis, indicating it has more or less returned to a fairly normal level. This is evidence that the economy is gradually improving, and the government’s "steady growth" policy is effective. The State Electricity Regulatory Commission said recently that the consumption growth rate began to rise since October, making the trend of economic stabilization and recovery more evident. The figure in the fourth quarter is expected to continue to rise, with the electricity supply and demand achieving an overall balance across the country.
